Americans hold protests against Walmart policies with employeesWalmart workers walk a picket line during a protest over unsafe working conditions and poor wages outside a Walmart store in Pico Rivera, California on October 4, 2012Sat Nov 24, 2012 4:48AMShare | | Demonstrators in US have gathered outside Walmart stores nationwide to protest against how little the company values its employees. The protests on Friday are to build awareness of how Walmart treats its employees with low wages, poor benefits and bad treatment. "They don't get full-time hours, they don't get any benefits, they don't get decent wages, they can't live on their wages. … I mean it's miserable conditions," said a demonstrator. The union-backed group, OUR Walmart, claimed it was holding an estimated 1,000 protests in 46 states, which Walmart denies. To draw attention to their cause, the protesters used a day post-Thanksgiving dubbed Black Friday, where major retail outlets give discounts to Americans -- resulting in huge shopping sprees. Walmart employees and its officials are at a major disagreement with each other. Demonstrators including Walmart employees say the company is punishing workers who exercise their right to freedom of speech. In Paramount, California, authorities arrested at least nine protesters on Friday during a rally outside a Walmart store. The company has tried to silence the calls of its employees when it filed an injunction against their actions to the National Labor Relations Board. However, the board said it has delayed the ruling until next week due to its "complex" nature. GVN/AZ
